The White Plains congregation began as a mission in the late
1940’s in the Buchanan/Peekskill, NY area, with services held in
the homes of the Weber and Muccoli families. Their kindness, along
with the staunch support lent by several members from the Bronx
congregation, became a blessing when six souls were sealed in
1950. In 1955, the mission moved to the YMCA in Tarrytown, NY and
two years later, eight more souls were added. A happy event
occurred in 1960 when the thirty or so members moved into a small
purchased church building on Maple Avenue in White Plains. The
building had historical significance as the home of several beginning
congregations, and had even been physically moved from one side of the
City of White Plains to another. After sixteen years, the
congregation outgrew the Maple Avenue building and the then sixty
members were delighted to move into a newly constructed church at its
current location, 663 North Street. The new building was dedicated
on June 27, 1976 in our country’s bicentennial year. Over
time, our membership has reached 150 members. The White Plains
congregation has a history of fifty years in this rapidly developing
city and extends a warm welcome to all. Guests will experience
divine services, vocal and instrumental musical offerings, and warm
fellowship amongst all attendees and friends. Won’t you
visit us soon? Please contact the congregation’s rector,
Edward J. Denecke, Jr., at (914) 761-4485 if you have any questions.
