In 1970 a young couple from the established congregation of New Haven, Connecticut decided to move to Barre, Vermont for a business opportunity. The nearest congregation for them would be Claremont New Hampshire, 75 miles away. They traveled faithfully 150 miles for services for three years. The first Mission service was held in their living room in May of 1973. In 1975 Barre was established as a congregation, and services were moved to rented quarters provided by the First Congregational Church of Berlin Vermont. There the congregation remained for 25 years. Land was purchased in April 2000; Building of the church began the Thursday before the Chief Apostle’s visit to Boston, in October of 2000. Dedication was on May 6, 2001, and services continue to be conducted here to date. The Barre congregation has been blessed with children, we have an active Sunday school and Youth group which adds life and excitement to our congregational life; supported by our choir and on occasion instrumental groups.
