“Then Pilate said to Him, ‘Are You not speaking to me? Do You not know that I have power to crucify You, and power to release you?’ Jesus answered: ‘You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above.’”
John 19: 10-11 NKJV
Jesus’ reply was brilliant. He immediately looked up to His Father. God permitted Jesus to be questioned and later crucified. It all rested in God’s hands!
God gives many people power over us; we are not completely free to move around as we wish. We are still bound by many ties on this earth. There is poverty and illness; God allows these things to happen. Why does He do this? Not in order to torment us, but in order that it will work out as a blessing for us. One must be able to see and recognize this. Never lose trust in God! We often live through a “Good Friday” ourselves, as many circumstances that we have to endure are not to our liking. God lovingly allows others to have power and influence over us so that our lives can be fashioned and molded, and perhaps we can become a blessing for them.
God knows to whom He gives power and for what purpose. May we be able to see this and put our trust in Him.
CONTEMPLATION:
When we have a “Good Friday” in our lives, where do we look? Read John 3: 14-15. Do we find confidence and assurance in looking to the crucified Christ? Do we shift our perspective and percieve Christ’s highness over earthly things and recognize our smallness?
