“For it is God who works in you both, to will and to do for His good pleasure.”
At first sight it might seem astounding that God should influence our will. Is this not a personal matter for each individual? Does not almost every human being wish for good? And does not he who believes in life eternal wish for a good place in heaven?
However, taking a closer look at things, we discover that this is not such an easy matter. Two persons may both say that they want to be with God forever – one of them makes no effort whatsoever and just takes things as they come; the other one makes God’s influence his purpose in life.
The intensity of our will to pursue God’s good pleasure is crucial.
