Gifts of the Holy Spirit | December 3

“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all.”

1 Corinthians 12:7 NKJV

During the Christmas season, we spend a lot of time carefully choosing and wrapping gifts for loved ones. As gift-givers, how would we feel if on Christmas morning our thoughtful gifts were left unopened? We might think, “What good is my gift if it is never unwrapped? It’s useless!”

As children of God, we are all given spiritual gifts, and we are called to open those gifts. Our Father sent us the most useful gift—the Holy Spirit. He wants to manifest Himself in each one of us for the benefit of everyone.

How does the Holy Spirit manifest Himself? He presses us to pray for one another, and provides strength of faith, as in the centurion who pleaded with Jesus to heal his servant. (Luke 7: 2-10) We receive knowledge from Him which can be employed to teach others. Philip used this knowledge to help the Ethiopian man understand scripture. (Acts 8: 27-38) The Holy Spirit urges us to love—to be positive, sensitive, and kind-hearted towards others, regardless of their failures or weaknesses. Jesus Christ demonstrated this love when He attended to the robber hanging at His side on the cross. (Luke 23: 40-43) The Holy Spirit also entices us to have a contagious joy in the Lord.

Have I unwrapped my spiritual gifts that God has given me?

I will allow the Holy Spirit to manifest His gifts in me.
