Matthew 1:21 NKJV
And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.
When the Lord’s birth was announced in the gospel of Matthew it says: “For He will save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1: 21). Sin separates from God. It is a type of fall which requires a rescue operation. Every time we have our sins forgiven and celebrate Holy Communion, we are rescued in this manner.
How beautiful it is that the dear God works this way! He draws us sinners to Him and turns to each one of us in love. He does not destroy anyone, as some Pharisees had hoped Christ would do, but rather seeks to pull us upward, out of sin and into freedom.
What a beautiful Savior who reaches into our broken lives to rescue us. Do we take His offered hand?
