God’s new promises | Week of December 10th

Isaiah 42:9, “Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things I declare; before they spring forth I tell you of them.”

From the sermon series: God draws near to us

In the verses leading up to Isaiah 42:9, God, through Isaiah, speaks of the servant He will send to save the Israelites and the great works He will do. This servant is Jesus Christ.

Verse 9 speaks to God’s faithfulness. He made promises to the Israelites that were fulfilled during the time of the Old Testament. He also declared new things for the Israelites, promising them a Servant and Savior, which would be fulfilled with the birth of Jesus, as recorded in the New Testament. Everything that God promises always comes to pass; it might take longer than we might expect, but we can trust God’s word. He is faithful, and the Bible is filled with stories that prove His faithfulness. Just look at a couple of the promises God said His Son would fulfill in Isaiah 42 – Jesus will help the blind to see, and He will deliver us from our prisons.

How has Jesus fulfilled these two promises in your life?
