The vine and the branches | Week of January 14th

John 15:5, I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

From the sermon series: The presence of Christ

Jesus made seven “I AM” statements about Himself, as recorded in the Gospel of John, fully knowing that the words, “I AM,” were significant to the Jewish audience that He addressed. Every time that Jesus used the phrase “I AM,” He was declaring that He is the always existing, eternal God.

From the “I AM” statement in John 15:5, we see that when we are connected to Jesus, we will bear fruit. We, ourselves, are not the source of our success or excellence. Our career is not the source. Our wisdom is not the source. It is only Jesus Christ who is the source of the fruit we bear in our lives. If we truly believe this, then every part of our lives must be connected to Him. We don’t have a “school life,” and a “work life,” and a “church life,” etc. As believers and followers of Jesus Christ, every moment of every day, we are connected to Him. And we want to live every moment with this knowledge in mind.

Are there certain moments where you sometimes forget that you are a follower of Jesus? What can you do to help remind yourself of this knowledge?
