God is creating something new | Week of March 11th

Romans 6:3-4, Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

From the sermon series: The new creation within us

In Romans 5 – 8, Paul writes about having new life in Christ. This new life comes about when we are baptized with water and Spirit – when we let the old Adam, our sinful nature, die and focus on letting Christ, the new Adam, live in us and rule our lives.

In Romans 5:20, Paul writes, But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more… When we recognize that God meets us with grace, what is our response? Paul asks the Romans this in chapter 6, verse 1 – What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Our answer must be no! When we were baptized with water and Spirit and put our trust in Jesus, we were given the power to overcome sin. It is only when we allow it that sin has power over us. To allow our new life in Christ to flourish, we want to live a life that pleases God, to say no to sin, and to turn to Him in repentance when we stumble.

Journal Prompt: What things in your life do you allow to have power over you? Are these things pleasing to God? If they’re not, how can you turn away from these things, and turn to Him instead?

But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared.”
