Witnesses of the resurrection | Week of April 22nd

Luke 24:46-48, Then He [Jesus] said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day; and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And you are witnesses of these things.

From the sermon series: Christ lives!

Jesus Christ is alive! In these verses from Luke 24, Jesus appears to His disciples after His resurrection.

At first, the disciples were doubtful, even frightened, that Jesus had risen from the dead. They had experienced such sorrow when their King was killed on the cross; they had perhaps lost hope. And yet, Jesus returned to them alive. They were witnesses of the fulfillment of prophecies from the Old Testament, of the fact that Jesus was victorious over the grave. Though we were not firsthand witnesses of His resurrection, we still believe in and feel the power of His victory in our lives. And just as the disciples of Jesus’ time were called to testify of His life, death, and resurrection, we are called to do the same.

Journal Prompt: How do you experience Jesus’ victory over death in your own life? How is your life a demonstration of Jesus’ present power?
