Sharing our treasure | Week of May 20th

Luke 6:45, A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

From the sermon series: Confirmation Celebratory Service

In Luke 6, Jesus gives a sermon that is known as the “Sermon on the Plain.” In this sermon, He provides teachings that may be familiar to us, such as the Beatitudes, loving your enemies, and not judging others and being hypocrites.

Read Luke 6:43-45. From these verses, Jesus teaches us about how we know if something is good or not. A good tree can only produce good fruit, and a bad tree can only produce bad fruit. People are the same. Our words and actions tell others what truly lives in our hearts. If good lives within us, then we will speak and do good. When we allow God to rule in our hearts, then His love lives in us. It is out of this love that we are able to do good. God’s love is abundant – it can never run dry or be “over-used.” We want to learn to dwell in His abundance, so that His love fills us and pours over into our words and actions, where it can be shared with others.

Journal Prompt: What can you do this week to dwell in the abundance of God’s love?
