The activity of the Holy Spirit | Week of June 10th

1 Corinthians 12:13, For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body – whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free – and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.

From the sermon series: Pentecost

In Paul’s letter to the Corinthians, he addresses the diversity that is in the congregation. Though there are different people with different gifts and ministries, they are one because the Holy Spirit brings unity.

Read 1 Corinthians 12:1-14, and take note of the differences in the Corinth congregation that Paul highlights. Does this description sound familiar to you? Many of the differences that Paul lists are also seen in our own congregations. Consider the diversity you see in your congregation. God creates each person with unique qualities, passions, and gifts. And yet, we all have the opportunity to be one, to be united in our desire to do His work. When we allow the Holy Spirit to work in our lives, and therefore, to be present in the midst of our congregation, we are unified in our goal to use our unique giftedness to edify the body of Christ and make Him known to all people.

Journal Prompt: What can you do to help your congregation embrace and celebrate the diversity that is seen among the members?
