Being truthful | Week of August 5th

Ephesians 4:25, Therefore, putting away lying, “Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,” for we are members of one another.

From the sermon series: Our conduct

In this section of his letter to the Ephesians, Paul writes about what it means to truly walk in Christ and transform our nature.

Because the word, “therefore,” is at the beginning of Ephesians 4:25, we must look at what comes before this verse to truly understand what Paul is saying. In these previous verses, we can read that there is a visible difference between the conduct of those who believe and follow the teachings of Christ and those who do not. As Christians, we have made the decision to no longer behave the same way we did before we came to truly know Christ. One way that our behavior changes is that we no longer lie. Instead, we value honesty. When we choose to not deceive others, to not participate in gossip, or to not lie to cover up our own wrongdoings, then we demonstrate our desire to truly walk in Christ and become a new creation.

Journal Prompt: What other characteristics and actions display that we walk in Christ? In other words, what should we no longer do if we profess Christ? You can find some answers in Ephesians 4:25-32.
