Holy Communion as a meal of profession | Week of September 9th

1 Corinthians 11:26, For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.

From the sermon series: The community of all believers

In Paul’s letter to the Corinthians, he explains the way that Holy Communion should be celebrated. This teaching is not something that Paul designed, but comes from the Lord Himself.

By celebrating Holy Communion, we continually remind ourselves of Christ’s sacrifice and what it means for our lives. Instead of it remaining in the past, Christ’s victory over sin and death is part of our present and is relevant to us today. However, the celebration of Holy Communion also points us to the future – our future with Christ. We await His return, and when we partake in communion, we profess the power of Jesus’ life, death, resurrection, and ascension until the day that He returns.

Journal Prompt: What do you profess when you celebrate Holy Communion?
