Living in the gospel | Week of January 27

Colossians 3:16, Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

From the sermon series: Fellowship with Jesus Christ

In this section of Apostle Paul’s letter to the Colossians, he describes the characteristics believers have as new creatures in Christ and what they are called to do.

One of the things we are called to do is worship our Creator, and we can do this through singing. When the lyrics of our songs are based on the Scriptures and sung with joy, then they will serve to inspire and edify those who hear it. The joy we experience through our relationship with Jesus Christ should radiate out through all we do in our life. The worship of our lives is to be a credible witness of what we believe so that those around us will come to know our God.

Journal Prompt: What hymn do you enjoy that is based on Scripture? What Bible verse(s) are the lyrics based on? Consider doing some research about this hymn to better understand what the lyrics are trying to teach.
