The dragon | July 23

“And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born. She bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child was caught up to God and His throne.”

Revelation 12: 4-5 NKJV

In this Bible verse, the dragon represents Satan. He intends to “devour” the Child, preventing Him from being with God. The dragon has one goal: he wants to destroy.

Satan’s overall goal is to destroy our trust in the Lord. Personal need, illness, and sorrow can shake our trust. Doubtful questions might come up in our lives, tearing down our assurance of faith. Our joy in the Lord can be destroyed by indecision and disappointment. When we begin to think, “We have been waiting for the Lord for such a long time already…” Satan is able to destroy hope in the Return of Christ. Through quarreling, misunderstanding, and annoyance, he tries to destroy the love in our relationships with one another.

Will I fall victim to the dragon? Is the power of the Holy Spirit strong enough in me to guard against it?
