Holy Communion | Week of January 30

Matthew 26:26-29 NKJV

And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”

Communing with Christ makes it possible for us to nurture a very close fellowship with Him; He offers us His body and His blood. Only the sacrifice of Christ brings about reconciliation with God, and only a conscious participation in the absolution allows us to experience the benefits of Christ’s sacrifice.

Of the three sacraments, Holy Communion is the only sacrament which we receive repeatedly. It preserves and develops the life we received at our rebirth with water and the Spirit. This special connection with Christ increases our power to overcome, to be cleansed from sin, and to extricate ourselves from harmful situations or influences.
