Joy in the Lord—God’s Joy in His people | Week of December 23rd

From the sermon series: Preparation

Joy in the Lord—God’s Joy in His people

“But be glad and rejoice forever in what I create; for behold, I create Jerusalem as a rejoicing, and her people a joy. I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in My people”
Isaiah 65:18-19

The more diligently the season of Advent is used as a time of preparation the greater joy can be experienced at Christmas. God not only tells us to be joyful, but also is Himself an occasion for Joy. Both who God is, and all He creates, is cause to rejoice.

The nature of God brings us joy when we identify His characteristics and celebrate them. To name a few:

  • God is a loving Father that brings comfort, help, and security
  • He is the Almighty, Perfect, and Eternal One that has neither beginning nor end
  • He is the Gracious and Righteous One that grants the grace of salvations to the repentant and judges all unrighteousness in the Last Judgment

That which God creates is also cause for joy. This is seen in the creation that is present around us, and also seen in the prophecies that talk of the world that God is preparing. God is creating a future where only joy will reign.

What brings you joy?

Give thanks and celebrate God for your joy as preparation for greater joys to come.
