Turning to Jesus Christ

“Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.”
Hebrews 10:22

In the account of Jesus’ birth recorded in Matthew, wise men from the Orient came to see the new born King. They went “into the house [and] saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshipped Him” (Matthew 2: 11). You also have the opportunity to draw near to your Lord and Savior, and today’s verse offers instruction for this.

First, you must “draw near with a true heart”. The thoughts and feelings of the heart must be centered on Christ, driving you to constantly seek the will of God. The verse also states that we should draw near “in full assurance of faith”. This means that your confidence in Christ as the Redeemer—which He has displayed through His life, death, resurrection, and coming return—should define all decisions and actions.

These things are only possible because you have been liberated from the shackles of an evil conscience, and cleansed by the blood of Jesus, displayed through the sacrament of Holy Baptism. Though Baptism stands for a cleansing from Sin, it is clear that man continues to fall into sin again and again, but there is a future where this will come to a final end as you can read in Hebrews 13: 14 “For here we have no continuing city, but we seek the one to come.”

Do you have daily practices that help you cultivate a true heart and discern the will of God?

Take a moment to praise God in prayer for His infinite grace defined by the life, death, and resurrection of the Son.
