Time of preparation

“Arise, shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people; but the Lord will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you.”
Isaiah 60:1-2

When God intervened in the course of history, He often announced His intervention well ahead of time. Through prophets, God ensured that His people were never left in the dark about His intentions. The coming of the Messiah was also announced. God had promised to come to His people in all the brightness of His glory.

Along with this also came the command to arise and shine, to be light among darkness. Although this coming Light was clearly promised, “the darkness did not comprehend it” (John 1:5), and the true Light was misunderstood.

To shine we must have a source, and that is and can only be the Christ in us. Therefore, we must inquire into the will of God and submit to the guidance of the Spirit of God. As we joyfully await the return of Christ, we must remain in the congregation of those who praise and worship God. All of this is only possible by the grace of God!

What opportunities do you have each day to demonstrate the light of God that is in you?

What attitudes or actions did you have this week that dimmed or prevented God’s light from shining through?
