Joy motivates

“Indeed the Lord has proclaimed to the end of the world; ‘Say to the daughter of Zion, ‘Surely your salvation is coming; behold, His reward is with Him, and His work before Him’’”
Isaiah 62:11

The Jews’ liberation from Babylon addressed in Isaiah 62 can be read as a reference to the coming liberation from sin. The Jews experienced tremendous joy and enthusiasm as they were freed from bondage, and our freedom from the bondage of sin ought to spark the same enthusiasm in us.

The salvation from sin that Jesus acquired for us is eternal, for all humans, and for sinners past, present, and future. This freedom should motivate appropriate actions, and we can discern the appropriate actions by considering the commandments of Jesus who paid the price for that freedom:

  • The commandment to love (John 13:34-35)
  • The commandment to profess the gospel (Matthew 10:32)
  • The commandment to seek first His kingdom (Matthew 6:33)

What does it mean to you to be liberated from sin?

How can this motivate you to Godly action?
