Seeing the soul that is loved by God

Mark 8:22-25, “Then He came to Bethsaida; and they brought a blind man to Him, and begged Him to touch him. So He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the town. And when He had spit on his eyes and put His hands on him, He asked him if he saw anything. And he looked up and said, ‘I see men like trees, walking.’ Then He put His hands on his eyes again and made him look up. And he was restored and saw everyone clearly.”

God’s healing work sometimes happens in phases. In the account of Jesus’ healing the blind man in Mark 8 we see this pictured well. In the first phase of healing, the blind man sees an incomplete picture of the world. The images he sees are unclear and misrepresented. In the next phase of healing, the man is fully healed. In Mark 8:25 we read “he was restored and saw everyone clearly.”

We are all being restored, one step at a time. Sometimes this occurs through many small steps, other times we encounter a few great leaps, but God’s work of restoration always brings a clearer vision of His kingdom.

As God restores our vision, we can come to see others more clearly and from God’s point of view. In phases, we can come to see what has been clouded by sin—the souls loved by God.

How have you experience God restoring you vision? Where have you experienced moments of this clarity?
