The King is coming!

John 12:13, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! The King of Israel!”

From the sermon series: Time of fulfilment

In John 1:46, Nathanael questions the likelihood of something significant coming from Nazareth, the home of Jesus. Philip responds by saying, “come and see.” Those that have seen Jesus in their lives, and allowed Him to have rule over their lives have recognized the Kingship of Christ.

As we explore His method of ruling we can see some unique differences from norms of today’s rulers.

  • Jesus rules with love rather than violence
  • He has the power to judge, but does not condemn
  • He issues new laws, but they are not based on the threat of punishment
  • He cares for the eternal wellbeing of His people

When we find someone interested, but skeptical, in Jesus, we can offer the response “come and see”. When we allow others the opportunity to encounter Jesus firsthand, they too can find themselves moved by the unique ruling style of our King. We can do so boldly, remembering the claim, “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!

Who in your life has not encountered Jesus? Who may be interested, yet skeptical? How can you invite them to “come and see” Jesus?
