From the sermon series: Fellowship with Christ
We have the opportunity to experience fellowship with Christ every Sunday during Holy Communion. And just as food and drink give strength and life to our bodies, partaking of the flesh and blood of Jesus gives life to our souls.
The Jewish people that Jesus was speaking with in John 6 were confused and possibly disturbed by the image of eating Jesus’ flesh. However, we know that eating His flesh and drinking His blood is done by believing that His death, where His body was broken and His blood was shed, allows us to have grace and eternal life. How amazing that Jesus took something so instinctual to humans, eating and drinking, and gave it the power to change our lives forever.
What do you think of as you eat the communion wafer? What can you do to better prepare yourself for Holy Communion each week so that you can grasp its depth every time you partake of it?
