Help prepare the way! | Week of December 11th

Mark 1:2-3, As it is written in the Prophets: “Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way before You.” “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; make His paths straight.’”

From the sermon series: Promise and preparation

The Gospel of Mark begins with reiterating the prophecy about John the Baptist, of whom both Isaiah and Malachi spoke. He was a messenger of God who was to help prepare the way for Jesus. John baptized and preached about repentance for sins, all the while testifying of Christ.

Why did John the Baptist have to prepare the way for Christ? There was sin and corruption in the world that hindered Christ’s presence and the work He would do. So John was called to help battle this hindrance. We are also called to do the same. We can look at ourselves first. Is there something inside you that isn’t allowing room for Christ? Or, does Jesus’ light shine brightly in you? When Christ is in our hearts, we can testify of Jesus to the world as John did.

What are some things you have done or could do in order to allow Christ’s light to shine more brightly in you? What are some things you could do to bring His light others?
