Abraham, an example in faithfulness | Week of August 19th

Genesis 12:1-2, Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing.”

From the sermon series: Our conduct

In this chapter of Genesis, we see that God calls Abram (who is later known as Abraham) to leave his land and go to Canaan. Abram obediently follows this call.

Imagine being asked to leave your home, the land and people you are familiar with, to move somewhere new. Not too many people would gladly follow this request. God had a plan for Abram. He promised to bless Abram, and even promised that all the people of the world would also be blessed because of him (Genesis 12:3). And because Abram trusted God and he had a relationship with Him, he obeyed God’s call. Throughout his journey to Canaan and beyond, Abram’s faith was tested, but even when he made mistakes, God still followed through on His promises. God has a plan for each one of us, and He promises us eternal life through the gift of His Son. He asks us to put our faith and trust in Him. When we are secure in our relationship with Him, we choose to be obedient to His call.
