Diligent in hope | Week of September 16th

Hebrews 6:11-12, And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

From the sermon series: The community of all believers

In this passage of the letter to the Hebrews, the author seeks to encourage the Hebrews to persevere in their faith.

In Hebrews 5 and 6, the author writes some rather harsh words. He chides these Christians for not maturing in their faith, and warns them about what happens to people who fall away from God. This is why the author then offers encouragement to the Hebrews in verses 11 and 12. When you realize you’re in the wrong or you have become discouraged by your own actions or thoughts, doesn’t it help to have someone to remind you to keep going, to keep trying, to keep believing? God knows we’re not perfect. He knows that we will make mistakes and we will sin. And yet, if we work to remain faithful, we can still have hope in the promises He has made for our future.

Journal Prompt: Do you become easily discouraged? Does this cause your faith to waver at all? Find and write down a few Bible verses that can encourage you to be diligent in hope during these times.
