Jesus’ word | Week of November 4th

John 2:5, His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”

From the sermon series: Divine service for the departed

John 2:5 comes from the account when Jesus turns water into wine at the wedding in Cana.

In this chapter, we read that the wedding in Cana ran out of wine. Mary, interceding on the hosts’ behalf, tells Jesus about this problem with the hope that He might do something. Mary then tells the servants to do whatever Jesus says. Knowing that Jesus intends to help, it would be a little odd if the servants chose to not listen to Him. When we ask for God’s help in situations, do we listen to His response? Do we trust in His solution? If we truly believe that God is omnipotent and omniscient, we can have faith in the help that He provides.

Journal Prompt: Reflect on the last time you asked God for help. What answer or solution did He provide? Did you like His answer? How did this experience help you to mature in your faith?
