Let us welcome others! | Week of November 18th

Zechariah 8:20-21, Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Peoples shall yet come, inhabitants of many cities; the inhabitants of one city shall go to another saying, ‘Let us continue to go and pray before the Lord, and seek the Lord of hosts. I myself will go also.’”

From the sermon series: The return of Christ

In the book of Zechariah, the prophet wants to give the Jewish people hope for the future and the restoration of Jerusalem.

Zechariah foretells of a time when many people will seek the true God and want to have a relationship with Him. As part of the preparation for this time, the Jewish people are encouraged to speak the truth and love their neighbor in the previous verses. This message is reflected in our Church’s own mission: reaching out to all people in order to teach them the gospel… cultivating a warm fellowship in which everyone shall experience the love of God… To reach out to others and teach the gospel requires our willingness to devote ourselves to the teachings of Jesus Christ and surrender to the impulses of the Holy Spirit. Why would we do this? Simply because we recognize the mission of God is to save us. And we’ve been called for a purpose.

Journal Prompt: How do you give yourself to the mission of the Church?
