Advent: a time to remember and anticipate | Week of December 16th

Psalm 130:5-6, I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His word I do hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning.

From the sermon series: The light of the world

In Psalm 30, we see that the psalmist has hope in the Lord and His power to forgive and redeem Israel. This hope causes him to earnestly yearn for the Lord and cry out to Him.

Psalm 130 reminds us that God is the One we hope and wait for. He is the One we rely on to save us because He is the only One who can. Advent and Christmas is a time for us to reflect on the birth of Jesus Christ. With His birth, God’s plan to save all people was enacted. This causes us to also look toward the future, as the psalmist does, with hope. Because of His love for us and His desire to save us, we are assured of our future with Him. May these days of Advent be a time for us to bring to God our yearning to spend eternal life with Him.

Journal Prompt: Read Psalm 130. How does this psalm help you to deepen your understanding of what it means to wait for the Lord, and how does it impact your celebration of the birth of Christ?
