We serve the Redeemer and praise Him | Week of December 23rd

Luke 1:68-69, Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, for He has visited and redeemed His people, and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of His servant David.

From the sermon series: The light of the world

In Luke 1, we read that the birth of John the Baptist was announced to Zacharias by the angel, Gabriel. Zacharias questioned how this could be possible because his wife was older, and yet, Elizabeth did give birth to John. Verses 68-69 come from a prophecy that Zacharias makes after he is filled with the Holy Spirit and praises God for the birth of his son.

When you read Luke 1 and the account of Zacharias and his family, it is amazing to see what God can do through the lives of those who serve Him. A child was born, when it seemed impossible, and he would become the person who prepared the way for Jesus Christ. Zacharias was made mute by the angel because of his unbelief, and later was given back his voice, so he could praise God and tell of His plan of redemption. As we approach Christmas day, let’s marvel in what God has done and glorify Him with praise.

Journal Prompt: Reflect on a time that God did something amazing in your life that moved you to actions or words of praise.
