Christian love | Week of February 17

Galatians 5:14, For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

From the sermon series: The law of Christ

Though the gospel of Christ was revealed to the Galatians, they were still living their lives according to the Mosaic Law. Though these laws were by no means bad to follow, the Galatians were forgetting to live by the ultimate law of love found in the gospel.

We can be just like the Galatians. Sometimes when we are passionate about a certain topic, we find ourselves making it more important than loving others. Have you ever witnessed or even been a part of arguments based around politics or climate change or religion? Especially on social media, you can see how quickly these discussions can turn to cruel arguments, where people put down others and speak words of hate. While politics, climate change, religion, or any other topic is not necessarily bad in and of itself, it is when we allow these things to get in the way of us loving our neighbor that we are entering dangerous territory. As Paul exhorted the Galatians, let us also walk in the Spirit and love another.

Journal Prompt: What can you do to align yourself more and more to Christ’s gospel of love, especially in moments when you are in danger of making something else more important?
