God helps| Week of March 2

Psalm 145:18-19, The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth. He will fulfil the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry and save them.

From the sermon series: Divine service for the departed

Throughout Psalm 145, David praises God for His greatness, power, and mercy. And because of these qualities, we know that God is with us in difficult times and will give us what we need.

When calling upon God and asking for His help, David includes two phrases that we need to be aware of: God is near to those who call upon Him in truth, and He fulfills the desires of those who fear Him. Calling upon God in truth means that we have faith in Him as the true God and we are sincere in our hearts. When we have godly fear, this means that we are in awe of Him; we recognize His holiness and offer Him worship. With a true heart and godly fear, we surrender to and accept the will of God as our own. It is then that we know when we call upon God, He will respond mercifully.

Journal Prompt: Outside of the divine service, how do you worship God?
