Fellowship with the Lord | Week of March 30

Luke 22:17-18, Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves; for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”

From the sermon series: Passiontide

In this last meal with the disciples, Jesus institutes Holy Communion and speaks of the coming of God’s kingdom.

As Jesus was preparing His disciples for what was to come – His trial and crucifixion – He was also pointing them towards the hope of the future, when the kingdom of God would be present. We experience this same hope when we celebrate Holy Communion and commune with Christ. There are difficulties we have to deal with on this earth and some situations may seem bleak or hopeless, but all the while, we are being prepared by the Holy Spirit for Christ’s return when we will dwell perfectly in the kingdom of God forever. Jesus’ words in Luke 22 assure us of our future with Him.

Journal Prompt: What feelings arise in you when you celebrate Holy Communion?
