Spreading the gospel | Week of April 27

Matthew 28:19-20, Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

From the sermon series: The time after Easter

These verses, which Jesus speaks to His disciples after His resurrection, are known as the Great Commission.

We are commissioned to reach out to all people. That means we are expected to be open-hearted and willing to share with everyone we meet how Jesus has transformed us. The ministry of Jesus and the works of the apostles in the book of Acts show us that they didn’t withhold the gospel message from anyone. Jesus showed love and compassion for those who had been forgotten or set aside by society. A person’s occupation, stature, or sinful nature never prevented Jesus from showing him or her kindness. Our mission statement says, “reaching out to all people.” That’s a call to action – not passivity. Every day, remind yourself that the gospel of Jesus Christ has set you free from your sin, stand in awe of Him, and then seek opportunities to share the truth of the kingdom with whomever the Holy Spirit leads you to.

Journal Prompt: Whom have you felt the Holy Spirit calling you to reach out to lately? How can you reach out to them to share the love of Christ?
