The baptism of Jesus | Week of May 25

Mark 1:10, And immediately, coming up from the water, He saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove.

From the sermon series: Expectation of the Spirit

In the beginning of Mark 1, John baptizes Jesus in the Jordan River. After the baptism, a voice from heaven says, You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased (Mark 1:11), confirming that Jesus is the One that John had been preparing the way for.

Just by reading these couple of verses, we can learn so much about God and His plan. Not only do we see the three Persons of God at work, but we also get a glimpse of our future. Jesus is the Father’s beloved Son who dwelled with Him in heaven. And yet, He sent His Son to earth, allowing Him to be sacrificed so that we could be saved from sin. This tells us that the Father, the almighty God, also thinks of us as His beloved, and that we have a future with Him in heaven.

Journal Prompt: In Greek, “beloved” is translated from agapetos, which means “well-loved” or “dear.” How do you feel knowing that God thinks of you as His beloved?
