Need – spiritual wealth | Week of June 29

Philippians 4:19, And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

From the sermon series: Preparation for the divine service for the departed

In this portion of Paul’s letter to the Philippians, he thanks them for supporting him through troubling times. Though he has learned to be content with whatever state he is in (i.e. imprisoned, hungry), he encourages their giving, not for his own benefit, but for theirs.

When we serve and sacrifice in order to help others, we please God. This should be our mindset – to always do what will please God. When we live our lives in this way, we are content. Not content in the sense that we have all we need in order to be set financially, health-wise, etc., but rather, content in our life from God. Through Him, we have life. In the gift of His Son, we have been given everything we need in order to be content in Christ and have access to salvation. And when we offer and give and serve, we are reminded that all we have comes from God, and that He truly loves us.

Journal Prompt: Consider some needs you have had over the past few years. How has God filled these needs differently than you expected?
