Matthew 25:40, And the King will answer and say to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.”

From the sermon series: We, the church…

In Matthew 25:31-46, Jesus is offering to His disciples a vision of what the kingdom of God will be like, where those who serve others are considered righteous and will have eternal life.

As disciples of Christ, we show our love for God in concrete ways by meeting the needs of others. We choose to do this because of the amazing love and grace He demonstrates towards us, as we fight to transform our nature using Christ as our example. Christ Himself met the needs of people when He was on earth – He fed them, healed them, and freed them from demons or sin – and God has also given us the capacity to meet the needs of others in our own way when we respond to the call to serve. In the end, we inherit eternal life not because of our works, but because our hearts are transformed by the grace of the gospel of Jesus Christ. That transformation is shown in part by our compassion for, not indifference to, the “least.”
