We break bread! | Week of August 17

1 John 5:7-8, For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one.

From the sermon series: We, the church…

In Apostle John’s first letter to the early Christians, he encourages them to keep their faith strong by knowing and believing in the truth of Jesus Christ – that He is true Man and true God, and He gained victory over sin and death.

At the time, some questioned whether Jesus was actually the Son of God because He was also a man on earth. John explains that the triune God testifies of the truth of each Person of the Trinity. We are given evidence that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, through His baptism, His death, and the testifying of the Holy Spirit. In 1 John 5:9, we read, If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is the witness of God which He has testified of His Son. How often do you read an article or watch a video and consider that person’s words or perspective to be true? It can be easy to be influenced or swayed to another person’s way of thinking when they seem to be sincere and offer good explanations. And this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But if we sense that God is telling us something, then we must be even more prepared and willing to accept His words as truth because He is the almighty, all-knowing God.

Journal Prompt: How do you know when God is telling you something? Reflect on a time when you felt God’s undeniable influence.
