Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. | Week of September 21

Matthew 6:10, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

From the sermon series: When you pray…

Matthew 6:10 is the third plea in the Lord’s Prayer that Jesus teaches to His disciples during the Sermon on the Mount. It is both an expression of our desire to be saved and a request that God help us to act in accordance with His will.

In order to sincerely pray this portion of the prayer, we have to know what the will of God is. God wants man to live with Him, to have fellowship with Him for all eternity. This is part of His will. It has always been His will; the fall into sin did not change anything about that. Knowing that the salvation of all humanity is God’s will, and that we pray for His will to happen on earth, we then have to recognize and embrace that that means we desire the salvation of all humanity – the salvation of our family members, of the co-workers we do not get along with, our neighbors, the ones who have hurt us. All people are given the chance to come to God and accept His offer of salvation.

Journal Prompt: This week, pray for someone you know to see and embrace the offer of salvation. At the end of the week, reflect on what this prayer experience was like.
